There are many misconceptions about what educational professionals can and cannot do to "advocate" for their position. Are we lobbying? Can we lobby? If we can, what can we do? What shouldn't we do?
This page is an attempt to clarify this issue and provide you with resources to help you become an advocate for the children of Arizona.
Why should I become an advocate?
Part of being a professional is to educate the public on what it is you do and why it is important. If you do not do this, then policymakers and the public make assumptions about what it is you do and how you do it and then make important decisions based on these misconceptions.
But why me?
As a professional educator, you are the best person to tell your story.
However, put another way,
If I am not for myself, who will be?
If I am only for myself, what am I?
And if not now, when?
